City Block #2

I just completed this new painting of a city block, it is another
piece in my ongoing series of urban dwellings. 3 modern homes squeezed
together on a tiny bit of street. I used so much color in this
painting, it's really vibrant and intense.

Wednesday

Red Tom

i'm beginning a new series of portraits of people that i find
interesting. they may or may not be famous, but what they all have in
common is a certain something that compels me to paint them.

Teresa in the Boat

here is a tiny drawing of mine, going with the nautical theme i've
been working with recently- i have no idea why i'm drawing boats and
seascapes, but i am. i do like the mix of the soft pencil with the
crisp line of the pen.

Wednesday

First Degree

this is a new small (8"x10") abstract painting, loosely based on an
interior space. i like how it looks a little bit like a room after a
wild party, and a bit like a cave painting.

To the Docks

here's a new one, using one of my favorite subjects to paint- it is a
study of the workings of an interior space. i'm happy with the
interesting texture and perspective.

Vivid Dirt Road

i've been playing with making tiny works on paper. everything i do
lately comes out ultra colorful and bright, no matter what. i think
everything i paint is looking forward to springtime. this new york
winter has just killed this little artist.

getting ready for another group show

today i'm choosing the 4 paintings that i will show at the art:raw
gallery, opening february 19. it's very exciting, yet very difficult!
i have so much work to choose from, and i must make sure that what i
show is the tops! surely my selection will include one of the little
paintings that i've been working on for the last few days. this is one
of them- abstract and geometric and colorful and only 8" x 10". can i
tell you that i love using paintstiks? i do! they are so luscious and
creamy. mmmm......paintstiks.

Tuesday

Green Stair

this painting is an abstracted interior space, layered upon and added
to until i got it just right. i love the mix of angles and play with
perspective. i used lots of color and textured paint application. i
think it's lots of fun to look at.

Monday

Pink Rooftop

this is a new painting that was inspired by both a view i had from an
old apartment, and the thoughts and memories that were stirred while
listening to an album that i am truly crazy about - "forever changes"
by love.

i have been thinking a lot about my work and decided it was time that
i embrace my biggest influence, which is music, and make it more of a
focal point in my paintings. i'm not sure exactly how i am going to do
this, but i definitely will not simply start titling my paintings with
song lyrics, unless it fits of course.

since i always paint with music playing, i think a good starting point
is to make note of what i'm listening to when i work on each piece and
see what the results show.
